I was worried about myJan 04 2010Anthropology
I was worried about my SAT scores because they were not as high as the average Mary Washington student. The admissions office did not just look at my SAT scores and throw away my application but considered my grades in high school too. They do a great job at looking at the whole student not just the numbers.

Had a 3.3 gpa, but with a extremely positive trend (2.2 in freshman and 4.2 in senior).
Had about above average SAT scores (1330 w/o writing).
I think my essay was good but nothing spectacular.
I don't know about my recommendation but I imagine it was good, though not raving.
I mentioned a few clubs that I was involved in, though I had no leadership roles.
Overall this is not a hard school to get into. It seems to be either a safety school, not a dream school.

had average sat scores, a lot of leadership , strong transcript with honors courses and interviewed brilliantly.
Female
It is very hard for women to get inOct 29 2009Economics
It is very hard for women to get in and traditionally UMW is about 60-40 female to male. So be a guy. Also, when I was attending the school was ranked the 3rd least diverse school in the country (under cornell) so be another ethnicity besides caucasian. But sats about 1300 and playing sports in hs seemed to do the trick for me.

Mary Washington was my number 1 choice since IJan 27 2008Education
Mary Washington was my number 1 choice since I began looking for colleges. My SAT scores were on the lower side of the average and I didn't have many extra curriculars from high school (I had chosen to work instead of join clubs). I was in the top half of my very competitive high school and I thought i was a fairly average student. At first I was waitlisted. But I wanted to go the UMW very much. I did send a deposit to a back up school, and when I was accepted I gave up the 2nd schools deposit and jumped at my change to attend Mary Washington. I really enjoy Mary Washington and would not trade it for anything.
